How To Create an At Home Spa

Creating an at home spa for our beauty and relaxation needs isn’t as hard as you think. For many of us, visiting a spa and spending a small fortune on beauty treatments is a treat reserved for special occasions. The tips below will show you how easy it is to enjoy pampering yourself at home more regularly and enjoying the many benefits of a little self care.

PREPARE YOUR SPACE

First things first, make sure wherever you are you have a clear and tidy space, you probably won’t be able to feel zen if there’s a pile of dirty laundry in the corner of your bathroom! To really get that spa-like feeling, put on a soothing playlist in the background to help you relax such as this one or this classical one. Pour yourself a herbal tea and you’re good to go.

CANDLES

Light a scented candle as the softer light will help to calm and instantly transform your room and mood. This beautiful one from Liha will provide a feeling of tranquility and luxury wherever you are and whatever the day has thrown at you.

USE BEAUTIFUL PRODUCTS

Avoid saving all your lovely products for a special occasion, instead use and enjoy them now. You don’t need to break the bank in order to find beauty items that look and feel special, in fact one of the best ways to look after your skin is by making your own.

Mix 200g sugar, 3tbsp olive or coconut oil, 2-3 tbsp of lemon juice & 1 tbsp honey. Use on dry skin before a bath or shower.

Some other favourite products to try: Clarins Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate, Neal’s Yard Bath Oil & Up Circle Body Scrub.

ESSENTIAL OILS AND SALTS

Using essential oils will really help to elevate your levels of relaxation. Pick one or two scents that don’t overpower your senses but provide a sense of tranquility. Add a few drops to your bath oil or to your unscented body lotion, Neal’s Yard has a whole selection but their bestselling Chamomile and Bergamot ones are a good starting point.

Epsom salts such as these from Naissance can be added to your bath to soothe aching muscles and promote recovery after a workout.

TREAT YOUR SKIN TO A FACIAL MASSAGE

After cleansing your skin add an oil or moisturiser and give yourself a relaxing facial massage to encourage blood flow and lymphatic circulation.  You can even invest in some tools like a rose quartz gua sha which could help tone and firm skin, aside from that it’ll look pretty in your bathroom!

Take a look at this video from the Anna Edit for ideas on how to use it.

AT HOME MANICURE AND PEDICURE

Giving yourself a simple treatment with visible results such as a manicure and pedicure will instantly lift your mood and make you feel polished. Soak your fingers and toes before buffing and filing them, pushing back the cuticles and then applying your favourite nail polish.

FINISH WITH MEDITATION

Download a meditation app such as Calm and enjoy one of their short 10-15 minute meditation sessions. Meditation doesn’t need to be an hour long session for you to reap the benefits, just spend some time calming your thoughts and focusing on your breathing.
