Review

“Welcome to Hollywood. What’s your dream? Everyone who comes to Hollywood’s got a dream!”

You might not be here to make your dreams come true, like the characters in this theatre adaptation of the film ‘Pretty Woman’ are - but you will be transported back to the 80s, carried by stunning voices and the winning theme of a love story.

I would not recommend walking in the theatre with expectations of seeing the film reenacted in front of your eyes: this might not make you fully appreciate a musical that stands on its two feet. The costumes, the makeup and the hairdos, as well as the scenes set on stage depict a vivid image of dreamy locations, such as the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Rodeo Drive and Hollywood Boulevard.

This is a love story, as you will probably know, between two very different people, brought together by chance - and how this occurrence change their lives! Vivian will flip her life over completely, still carrying a deep sense of self and control over her actions, and Edward will have finally let someone in.

Happy Man / Mr Thompson and Kit will impress you with their talent and voices, and Giulio is the hidden secret of the entire show! Not to mention the singing skills of Violetta, the Bag Lady, who takes us back to the Opera for one night.

And there it is, the scene that changes everything, for the audience and for the main characters: Edward takes Vivian to see the Opera. The set is perfect, the dancers are impeccable and the Violetta and Alfredo’s voices in the Traviata take you to a different theatre night altogether for a few minutes! I personally loved the mash up between the Traviata piece and the ensemble singing.

From when you walk in to when you leave your seat, it will be a night of authentic fun, witty lines and a bit of cheeky, which is always welcome! Make sure to grab your tickets before November 11th.

Standout Quote or Moment: There is no beating the night at the Opera!

See If: You love musicals and amazing singing!

Last Impression: An old-school story on a colourful stage, a journey back in time!
