City Girl Magazine is home to over 35 volunteer writers and Editors who give their time to help us create content for this amazing platform. With some of the writers about to hit their 2 year anniversary this year, and a growing volunteer team we have decided to shout out about our super talented team!

Each month we will be awarding one of the content creators a Writer Of The Month award, for producing high quality articles, getting stuck into the extra activities and up-skill masterclasses we provide, and for being active in our community.

We couldn’t do this magazine without all of their hard work and creativity. This months award goes to Rosie Doyle, who after being with the magazine for just over a month, has thoroughly impressed us with her drive, creativity and enthusiasm for the magazine and content she creates- Let’s get to know her a bit better!

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN CITY GIRL MAGAZINE AS A VOLUNTEER? 

I’m a newbie - I only joined the magazine in April. I have been a keen City Girl Magazine reader for a while and lockdown has given me the time to reflect on the importance of doing more of the things I enjoy: writing and working with wonderful women!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT VOLUNTEERING FOR CITY GIRL AS A CONTENT CREATOR? 

I love engaging with writers from different cities and reading their articles. I have felt such a strong sense of community since joining as it’s a collaborative and supportive magazine. 

TELL US MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU ENJOY WRITING ABOUT 

I am a self-confessed foodie, so I like creating recipes to share with readers. I also enjoy writing book reviews, particularly books that I hope will resonate with readers. 

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO WRITING ABOUT IN THE FUTURE? 

As lockdown begins to ease, I’m looking forward to reviewing some of my favourite food spots in Brighton and beyond. Perhaps even some travelling articles next year. I would also like to start writing about more pertinent issues that are affecting young women today. The City Girl Network Editors are brilliant at encouraging writers to use the platform as a space of discussion and learning. 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ARTICLE IN THE MAGAZINE? 

That’s a tough choice as there are so many interesting articles. However, the article that first brought me to the magazine was In Limbo - Knowing What to Do Next by Hannah Bird. At the time, I was feeling a little lost and the article reminded me that I’m not the only one stuck in limbo with my career choices. The articles I like to read are personal and intimate; I’m nosy and keen to read other people’s stories.

Black Lives Matter: Book Recommendations from Black Activists - A pertinent and practical reading list that spotlights black writers and their seminal work.

Why Pretending is an essential read in the post Me Too era - A review of Holly Bourne’s latest novel that tackles sexism in the modern dating scene. 

Ultimate Guide to a Day Out in Lewes - Recommendations for a trip to one of my favourite places and all the lovely independent shops that readers can visit there. I wrote this during lockdown, so it was a cathartic process to reminisce and plan future trips to look forward to.
