10 Reasons to Attend a Community Event

UK

Our community events are the perfect opportunity to meet new people, try something new, and most importantly - have some fun. Whilst they can sound daunting, you can get so much out of them, so if you’ve always wondered what’s so good about community events, here are 10 reasons why you should attend one.

1. Opportunity To Make Friends

If you’re new to a city or just wanting to make new friends in general, community events are the perfect opportunity for this. Most people attending community events are there to chat and meet new people, and so it is the perfect environment to make new friends and expand your social circle.

2. Try Something New

It can be a bit scary trying something new, especially crafty things that look like they require a lot of skill. However, community events are mostly always relaxed, with no pressure whatsoever to create anything impressive. It’s more about the experience itself than whatever comes out of it at the end, so it is the perfect opportunity to dip your toe into that thing you’ve always wanted to try.

3. Pursue A Hobby

Whilst it’s always nice being able to do your own hobbies by yourself, sometimes it’s also equally as nice to sit around doing the thing you love with like-minded people. Many community events are hobby-focussed, allowing you to carry on with your own thing whilst having a chat with the people around you. It’s the perfect way to do what you love and meet people whilst doing it as well.

4. Learn A New Skill

Community events are also a great way to learn new skills. Many events are focussed on learning new skills and teaching people from scratch how to do something. This can range from crafty things like crocheting or painting, to more personal things like public speaking. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn something new in a relaxed environment.

5. Keeping Active

Lots of community events include walk and talks, and hikes, which is perfect for those of you who are looking to meet new people whilst also getting out the house and remaining active. If you’re looking to do lots of talking and get some exercise in as well, then this is the community event for you.

6. Explore Your City

If you're new to a city or just wanting to find some hidden gems, then going to a community event is the best way to explore and find new places. You’ll get to try new venues, and also hear from the people around you for local recommendations. It’s an incredible way to get acquainted with the place you live.

7. Be Part Of A Community

Community is obviously at the heart of community events, so they are ideal if you’re looking for that close-knit feeling. It can be easy to feel lonely, especially in bigger cities, but attending an event with a smaller group of people really allows you to feel as if you’re a part of something.

8. Meet Like-Minded People

Sometimes, it can be hard to find people you share stuff in common with, but community events allow you to follow what you enjoy and meet like-minded people at the same time. If you go to a sewing club, then chances are, you’ll be able to chat with the people around you about sewing all night.

9. Do Something Different

Community events are the perfect opportunity to get stuck into something you wouldn’t necessarily do at home. There’s just some things, like cocktail making workshops for example, that would be kind of difficult to do at home, but are so easy when you can just go to a bar and have a go with other people. The best thing about these events is that once you pay for a ticket, you don’t have to spend any money on materials itself, so you don’t need to worry about buying a bunch of stuff you’ll only ever use once.

10. Put Yourself Out Of Your Comfort Zone!

Going to these events, especially by yourself, can be daunting, but I think putting yourself out of your comfort zone is an accomplishment in itself sometimes. Even if what you crafted didn’t go to plan, or you didn’t end up making any new friends, it is the experience you’re there for, and if you went, then that’s the main thing.

City Girl Network hosts a huge range of community events across several cities. Find out more about the nearest city near you, and how you can be a part of our community.
