Breaking The Ice: Winter Date Ideas

Dating can be lots of fun, but it can also be quite overwhelming, especially if you are fairly new to the scene. I’ve always loved the idea of going on dates as it’s a great opportunity to try new activities, challenge your comfort zone and (hopefully!) meet some interesting people that you can connect with.

In practice though, it can be a struggle as there is often a self-inflicted pressure to impress.  From knowing what to wear, how to act, what to say, what NOT to say…there is no denying, dating can be a little scary.

Thinking of what to do on the date is often one of those struggles, particularly in these winter months as the dark nights and cold weather are in full throw, and our bank accounts may finally be feeling the effects of Christmas.

However, it’s easy to forget that dates don’t have to be expensive or extravagant. So, no matter what your budget during these winter months, I’ve posted a few fun date ideas below, perfect for winter and totally adjustable.

Pizza Making

One for the pizza- lovers! You may decide to go all out and make your own dough from scratch, or you could buy a couple of pre-made bases. Either way, creating the pizza with your chosen toppings is both a fun and delicious way to spend your time!

Duvet Day

If it’s a rainy, cold day or you’ve both just had a long day at work, this is quite a nice, chilled one to do. Either snuggle up on the sofa or create a makeshift bed with your duvet and pillows on the floor. Light a few candles, grab some snacks, stick a movie on and you’re good to go.

Play Pool

Cheap and cheerful! A lot of pubs and bars have pool tables so it shouldn’t be too time-consuming trying to locate one. If you find sitting right opposite your date a little intimidating in the early stages, or are worried about awkward pauses, this activity will help put those nerves at ease. Pool can be a good laugh, and remember- a healthy bit of competition never hurt anyone!

Indoor Picnic

If you’re a romantic at heart, this is a good one to try. As an alternative to a sit-down dinner, grab some picnic-style food from your local supermarket and a blanket and have an indoor picnic. If you want to make it a little fancier, you can always light some candles and open a bottle of wine. Or, if you both have a sweet tooth, you could get an assortment of sweets and desserts to have a sweet-style picnic instead.

Drive Date

Provided that one of you can drive and you both feel comfortable, try picking a place that you’d both like to visit (If you’re stuck for ideas, a local park or the National Trust Website may be a good place to have a look).

Once you’ve chosen this, make a playlist and a flask of any hot drink that you fancy before you go. If you’re after quite a chilled atmosphere with a little bit of adventure, a road trip can be a great idea.

Remember, the purpose of a date is to have fun and get to know someone in the process. Dating should be as pressure-free as possible- so whether it is your first date or your fifth, I hope you have fun with these ideas.

 Happy New Year, City Girls!
