Colours That Compliment Dark Skin Tones In Autumn & How To Use Them

Some colours just don't work during some seasons, but these four colours will definitely make you stand out this autumn!

You’re a person of colour. You walk into a cosmetics shop like Superdrug or Boots. You cannot find the right shade of eye makeup or eye shadow to suit you. Sound familiar? This may be because the only ones available are advertised towards customers of a Fair to Medium skin tone so you may feel some uncertainty about using them.

It’s a common misconception that many bright or bold colours do not suit people with dark skin tones so you may think to yourself: "It’ll look ashy!", "That definitely won't work for me" or "It's a bit too bright".

WRONG!

Put those thoughts aside because it’s thoughts like these that will hold you back from trying out new looks with colours that suit you!

Not only is this the perfect guide to help you choose which colours to rock this autumn, NYX and Revolution are both cruelty-free brands. Revolution Makeup also host a large number of products that are 100 percent Vegan!

BLUE

When it comes to using bright colours, blue is definitely underrated. The dark hues in blue products bring out undertones in dark skin tones that make your eyes look much brighter. It’s also the perfect shade to use in the transition from Autumn to Winter.

My go-to product for a pop of blue in any eye look is the NYX Vivid Brights eyeliner in Sapphire. Add this to your under-eye to add a bit of colour or try out an avant-garde look if you're feeling brave!

ORANGE

Orange is a rich colour with yellow and red undertones that definitely looks good at this time of year! Due to the intensity of the colour orange, it would be weird to not consider it an Autumn colour that will make you stand out!

The IMOGENATION X Revolution palette is currently the palette that holds my favourite orange shades. The shades ‘Mills’ and ‘Honeybee’ are to die for! All the colours on the palette are very pigmented so trust me when I say the orange colours in this palette will last you the whole day and hold your look together.

GOLD

Gold is one of my favourite colours and works well with any look in any season, whether it be rain, snow or sunshine. Add a bit of gold to your inner corner in any eye look or use it as a highlight to give you that autumn glow!

The Revolution Strobe Highlighter in Gold Addict is one of my all time favourites!

ROSE GOLD

Rose gold is a colour that I have been obsessed with this season! I have used it as a highlighter, as a lipstick and of course as an eye shadow. Matte rose gold isn’t always a good idea as it makes your look seem flat and may come across as a baby pink.

But… using a shimmer rose gold is highly recommended to give your look some life. My favourite rose gold shade is from yet another Revolution Pro Eyeshadow palette! The Revolution Pro ‘Intoxicate’ palette is definitely a bargain not to be missed. They sell for just £6 in any Superdrug store or online!
