Halisco Too: The Burrito Joint You Don’t Want to Miss

Halisco has now opened their third location in Brighton: Halisco Too, offering delicious burritos and their signature tequila cocktails.

Founded in 2017, Halisco started as a small Mexican restaurant on Preston Street, in the heart of Brighton. After the success of their original store, in February 2025 they opened a margarita bar opposite the main restaurant. Now with the limited seating and high demand they decided to open a third location just a few doors up.

Whilst Brighton was granted city status back in 2000, it is still a small area despite being bustling with life and colour. The sea and the South Downs make it hard for Brighton to commit to any real urban growth, meaning the option for bigger kitchens with large seating areas is limited. The rising rent prices in the city combined with Brighton’s limited real estate opportunity mean that the owners of Halisco have been unable to open one larger restaurant.

Brighton holds a host of oddly shaped stores, with small steep staircases, and limited seating. You could say it is part of Brighton’s quirk and charm. But for business owners like Halisco’s, paying rent on three different locations is not ideal and trickier to manage than having one large store.

Still, the company generates a plethora of eager customers. In 2025 Halisco was voted Brighton’s Best Restaurant, being called ‘an affordable Mexican joint’. Their appeal to all ages with a small-plates focused menu and an informal-feel make this a local hotspot or one for the bucket list for the foodie-obsessed tiktokers.

Brighton’s foodscape is one that promotes creativity, local and high-quality products, and favours small independent restaurants as opposed to corporate chains. Halisco is just that, a tight-knit business founded by Ismaeel Razavi and Alex Anastasiades. Their restaurants focus on authentic yet modern Mexican food with cosy seating and a warm but moody feel. Perhaps these smaller buildings allow for such an environment and one bigger restaurant would take away from the very nature of Halisco.
