Places to Enjoy the Spooky Season in and Around Bristol

The nights getting darker means the spooky season is upon us. Think creamy hot chocolates, snuggling under blankets and evening walks in warm puffy jackets.

If your pining over the long summer days and struggling to get into the seasonal spirit, read on for some ideas in and around Bristol to appreciate what autumn has to offer.

Pumpkin Patch Nights at Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park

Let's begin with one of my favourites, pumpkin picking. Avon Valley describes its pumpkin festival as the ‘ultimate seasonal destination’ and we couldn’t agree more!

There are a large variety of pumpkins to choose from and in their own words.. ‘there are some giants out there’ That sounds like a challenge I would like to take!

If you've never been pumpkin picking before, you simply grab a wheelbarrow and load up as many pumpkins as you desire. I would recommend bringing a plus one, as pumpkins can be surprisingly heavy!

If this doesn't get you in the festive spirit, get involved with the live entertainment on offer or indulge in some of the wintery treats they have on sale.

The Pumpkin Patch Nights is a fun evening out for families, friends and couples alike.

What we love: the fire show if you need a little bit of warming up

 Dates: 6th - 31st October

Price: £6.99PP (plus booking fee) Pumpkins sold separately

Halloween Trail at the Bristol Zoo Project

One for the animal lovers, Bristol Zoo project is putting on a Howl-oween trail (love what they did there!)

Both educational and fun, adults and children alike can learn about animal bones, skulls and x-rays while exploring the project's grounds.

Get into craft making at the witch's campsite, or do some myth-busting in Bear Wood, there's something for everyone at Bristol Zoo Project.

After getting close and personal with the zebras, giraffes and more, once you get to the end of the trail there will be a 'trick or treat surprise' waiting for you.

What we love: Bristol Zoo Project are a conservation charity , so buying your ticket helps wildlife in return

Fireworks at Sea at The Grand Pier

Combining two of our favourite things.. fireworks and the seaside! The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare are holding their annual fireworks celebration for Fireworks Night.

This is the ultimate fireworks watching experience over the sea.. just remember to wrap up warm and indulge in some classic fish n chips or warm doughnuts to complete the seaside fireworks experience to the fullest.

What we love: The unique experience of watching fireworks over the sea

 Dates: 3rd November

Avon Valley Scream Park

If pumpkin picking and fireworks are too light and fluffy, this next pick is guaranteed to make you SCREAM.

Listed as 'the UK's best scream park in 2019 and 2022', Fear Scream Park boasts 5 scare attractions designed to chill you to the bones.

Enter the House of Clowns and you certainly won't be laughing, or book The Exorcism and watch The Suffering of Evelyn Grace.

New to this year is the Fright FEAST - 'an immersive dining experience', listed for 'carnivores and cannibals only'.

Along with the spine tingling attractions there's the chance to enjoy funfair rides, watch performing street entertainers and grab yourself a bite to eat.

Fright Fest is certainly not for the faint hearted. Enter if you dare.

What we love: the (free!) fire show
