Review: Grease Live The Experience

The greatest live movie experience. Last night we were invited to check out Secret Cinema’s Grease Live, going back in time to Rydell High, an unforgettable night.

Secret Cinema is a London-Based Entertainment Company and most commonly known for bringing our favourite film and TV series to life. There is something about walking into your favourite film and TV show that just puts the biggest grin on our faces.

Grease, for those who don’t know, is one of the most iconic musicals in history and one that sticks with us forever. The story is based around friendships, romance and the adventures of 1950s high school kids, we won’t tell you anymore because if you haven’t seen it, you need to.

REVIEW

I’ll be honest, we had absolutely no idea what to expect, but the feeling we got when we saw the first sign ‘Grease Live This Way’ was like the feeling you get as a child on Christmas Day. The immersive venue was about a 15-20 minute walk from Birmingham International but it was very clear where to go.

There it was… Rydell High and every staff member brought us back to the 1950’s. We absolutely did dance our way to the queue which was very efficient! We were welcomed by students of Rydell High who weren’t breaking character any time soon, given a tour and reminded that if the principal caught us, we’re drinking ‘lemonade’(we absolutely were not drinking Lemonade but a delicious passion fruit martini). Walking around the outdoor arena we were reminded of every scene in Grease from the auto shop, sports hall, school stairs all the way through to the ending with the carnival.

Fashion club, Music Club, Sports Club the list goes on and it became clear to us, that night, we were students of Rydell High and we were jumping with excitement. Pink Ladies and T-Birds everywhere, competing in egg and spoon races, dancing and singing a-long to every scene with the actors and going on the famous rides. You have to go.
