Review

STATUS FLO was a night of poetry, activism, and inspiration. A blend of arts and politics that uplifts and empowers unheard voices.

Hosted by Brighton Girl Creative of the Year, AFLO. the poet, STATUS FLO opens up the stage to UK poets and artists to inspire the audience, challenge the status quo, and discuss the intersection of politics and identity in the current political and social climate.

AFLO, the poet was an incredibly host: funny, charming, warm. She created a space in which the performers felt welcome and excited to be on stage.

The two performers, Salena Godden and Pablo Franco, shared their wildly different yet equally captivating work. Salena’s focused on race, identity, and immigration policies. She condemned the current right-leaning political climate and called for more open, kind, and compassionate policies for the UK. Pablo’s work had a more personal touch. She spoke of her love of mushrooms, trees, and nature, viewing the ‘natural’ world as the lens through which we can understand life, love, and grief.

At the end of the night, the audience was asked to share a poem of their own, written through the course of the night. This moment felt special, intimate, and the stage opened up to welcome the words of the brave volunteers.

AFLO. the poet has clearly created a beautiful community, which supports and uplifts each other’s voices and actively calls for positive change.

See If: you enjoy spoken word that explores identity, politics, and personal experiences

You can attend the next STATUS FLO at the Dome in February 2026.
