Sustainable Staples: Splash In Style, Swimwear Season
It’s that time of year where we’re all heading off on our summer hols to bask in all the sun, sea and sand. Whether you’re off to relax on a lounger or party it out, what’s the one thing you’ll likely be wearing in either of these activities?
Now we probably don’t need yet another item in our overflowing wardrobes, but if you’re in the market for a new cossie then read on! However, hopefully you won’t let it be part of the 11 million, one-hit wonders of clothing that the UK is set to buy just for their holidays this year, never to be worn again. So, the selection you see here might be on the pricier side, but they’re made well and last longer than just this summer.
Founded by influencers Natalie Glaze and Zanna van Dijk, they created Stay Wild Swim as an ode to their love for the ocean and its protection. Only launching last October, they’ve already had two sell-out collections. You won’t find any airbrushed bodies - they use real women, proud in their own skin. All pieces are made with ECONYL© regenerated nylon, using waste from the ocean. How’s that for full circle?
Another brand using real women, Deakin and Blue was created to bridge the gap between ‘flimsy bikinis’ and ‘serious sportswear’. The result is supportive and flattering swimwear in fashion-forward styles. Their unique sizing system also accommodates for as many body shapes as possible through three categories. Pair this with sustainable and ethical practices and you’ve got something special!
Ruby Moon
It’s a triple threat here; an all-female team, use of sustainable fabrics and 100% net profits lent out as small loans to women entrepreneurs across the globe. Ruby Moon really does cover all the bases when it comes to doing good. Their entire collection is ‘Gym to Swim’ which means you can go from your morning yoga to evening swim without worrying about an extra set of clothes.
If fun and feminine prints are your thing, then Tide and Seek have just what you want. All made from Repreve®, a material created from recycled plastic bottles, therefore a lower carbon footprint. There are three simple styles; two bikinis and a one-piece that features all their designs, plus matching headbands! With playful prints like ‘Popsicle’ and ‘Sea Sparkle’ it’ll be forever summer whenever you wear these pieces.
