Review

If you’re after a spectacular rock opera which will keep you on the edge of your seat, this is a must watch.

If you’re a musical lover, you’ll be no stranger to Jesus Christ Superstar which we had the joy of attending at the Bristol Hippodrome.

The musical begins a few days prior to the crucifixion and takes you on the journey of the love and conflict Jesus had experienced with those around him which was perfectly played out by the ensemble. One thing that’s clear, was every small detail taken into consideration to perfectly portray the torture Jesus had encountered.

The rocky music was electrifying and added to the modern twist of this holy story, which kept us at the edge of our seats. Nothing could have prepared us for the incredible vocals amongst the cast, particularly Ian Mcintosh (Jesus) who played his role extremely well. The performance was full of emotion and the ensemble’s stage presence definitely added to this. Although at times, the busy stage made the storyline a little harder to follow.

Away from the acting, the set design was carefully curated along with the striking lighting displays, which helped bring the story to life, and definitely made all the difference to the overall performance.

If you’re after a spectacular rock opera which will keep you on the edge of your seat, this is a must watch.

Standout moment: The crucifixion (no spoilers!)

See if: You want to see a modern take on final days of Jesus Christ.

Last Impression: A rocky music extravaganza!
