5 Self-help Podcasts To Listen To When Things Get Overwhelming

Podcasts are booming right now, and with loads out there to enjoy, it’s sometimes tricky to know which to choose.

During the lockdown and through furlough life, more of us are working from home and spending more time on the sofa or in the garden relaxing in the sun. Podcasts are great company on your daily exercise too, whether you’re walking, running or cycling.

There’s everything from self-help advice podcasts, to storytelling and comedy, so there’s bound to be at least one out there that you won’t be able to stop listening to. So plug in, get out your front door, put your feet up or even listen while you’re cooking and cleaning. Here are my top recommended self-help podcasts:

 Happy Place – Fearne Cotton

Fearne chats to a lot of well known names from a range of industries and backgrounds about what happiness means to them. They discuss the ups and downs of life and the journeys they’ve been on both personally and professionally.

This podcast is such easy listening and so many of the topics talked about are super relatable to most of us. And at least one or two episodes will be celebrities you love and can learn more about!

How to Fail with Elizabeth Day

Elizabeth Day is a novelist, journalist and broadcaster and in this podcast she chats to people like her from her industry and also some well-known celebs. In the episodes, they discuss their personal and work-life stories and what each obstacle has taught them.

Most of us will have had failures in the past, and so this podcast is really relatable. It can also be great for giving you tips on how to overcome and move past each dip. There’s also some special episodes thrown in where Elizabeth talks about current topics and goings-on in the world.

The Amy Rushworth Show

This podcast is superb at giving advice, guidance and inspiration. Amy chats to people from a whole range of different backgrounds and professions and explores topics from healing, parenting and embracing fear to body acceptance and anxiety.

And Breathe with Rebecca Dennis

As the title suggests, this one’s all about focusing on your breath. Slightly different to the podcasts previously mentioned, this one gives you a chance to escape and relieve anxiety, stress, past trauma, sleep troubles, gaining self-confidence, clarity and more.

GABA – Adam Martin

At first, this podcast seems very random. But keep listening; it takes you to another world in your mind. Adam Martin says “each episode is designed to teach you how to reconnect to the sheer awe and wonder of being human”. Through thought provoking storytelling, the podcast creates “next generation meditation that unfolds like a beautiful dream”.
