Book Review: Her Name Was Rose By Clair Allan

You’re locked down, you’re bored. We’re with you. Perhaps you’re exhausted from your Netflix binges and all the books on your shelves have spines broken from excessive wear. Been there, got the t-shirt! But...luckily for me, I ransacked the shelves of The Works before they closed their doors and now have a nice new stack of recent novels to flick through at my leisure.

And I have been flying through them! So if you’re looking for your next quarantine read then look no further. Her Name was Rose By Clair Allan is my latest review…

What is ‘Her Name Was Rose’ About?

Her Name Was Rose is about a broken woman named Emily who is shocked when she witnesses a beautiful mother step into the road and get mown down in a hit-and-run. When Emily later researches this mystery woman who died so tragically before her time, she is left in awe of her devoted husband, luxurious lifestyle and bubbly workplace.

By contrast, she is lonely and alcohol-dependent. As survivor’s guilt begins to crush her and she loses her job, she would do anything to get in on Rose’s perfect life. Luckily, now it’s hers for the taking.

City Girl Book Review

This book had me turning pages right to the end with a tragically relatable protagonist to guide me through and an ending that defies stereotypes - this being perhaps my favourite thing about this novel. You should definitely add this one to your to-buy list to get you through this quarantine - it is available from Amazon or Audible.

Favourite Quote: “I maybe should have told you before - but I didn’t know how, and I didn’t want you to judge me. I just wanted to be happy - and your workplace - you all looked so happy.”

Read If: If you’re a lover of a good, page turning psych thriller, and an easy read that will make you think, then you'll definitely enjoy this book!

Made Me Think: For me, the character’s almost infantile desperation for happiness in a world of insta-perfect peers really, really struck me and made me reflect on things in my own life.
