Bristol Best Eats: Little Hollows Pasta Review

Rating: ★★★★★

Open since September 2021, added to the Michelin Guide in 2022 and recently featured as one of The Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants 2023, this Bristol Girl had been looking forward to eating at Little Hollows Pasta on Chandos Road.

Read below to find out what we thought!

Atmosphere

Walking past during the day you can see the pasta being rolled in the window of Little Hollows Pasta which is a reminder of just how fresh their handmade pasta is. Inside is small and bright and the intimate setting makes it ideal for a romantic date night although we could also see a few larger tables enjoying the food. As it was a warm evening, we opted to sit in the garden. The garden at Little Hollows is beautiful and private with lots of herbs and flowers.

The Menu

As to be expected from a restaurant with pasta in their name, the main dishes at Little Hollows featured 6 different types of pasta. There was one meat dish (Rigatoni with lamb ragu) and one fish option (Tagliolini with pulled skate wing). It was refreshing to see the majority of the menu to be vegetarian as Italian food can sometimes be very meat heavy.

Alongside the delicious pasta on offer, Little Hollows has an exciting range of small plates to start your meal. We struggled to choose as we wanted to try them all!

The menu clearly marked which dishes were vegan, gluten free, contained nuts and contained dairy so we were pleased to see dietary requirements were well catered for.

Our Order

To start, we shared Burrata with peach, balsamic dressing & basil and Panzanella with heritage tomato, capers, red onion, basil and sourdough croutons.

The creaminess of the burrata with the sweetness of the peach went together so well and we thoroughly enjoyed piling slices of sourdough with the cheese. The panzanella had a balance of flavours with the juicy tomatoes, briny capers and tart onion.

For mains we went for Agnolotti, a filled pasta - with roasted tomato, mascarpone, roasted garlic, Fior di Latte and herbs. We also ordered the Tagliatelle with a pistachio and mint pesto. Both of these dishes were incredible but the standout was the agnolotti which was indulgent with its rich buttery sauce.

Although we were full from our mains, we couldn’t resist ordering a portion of ‘Flo’s hazelnut tiramisu’ to share, which was the perfect way to end the meal.

Verdict

This was one of the best meals I have eaten this year, and the attentive service and cosy atmosphere really added to the experience. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more and in fact I have already booked to go back to celebrate a birthday next month. If you get the chance, make sure to sit outside in the garden and soak up the evening sun.
