A Holiday For Your Mind and Body - Eco Yoga Scotland
2020 is the year that everyone is craving a holiday. And while it is tempting to book your next trip away (when we are actually allowed to travel again that is) to a hot and exotic location far far away from the UK, think again. Staycations are most definitely in, and I cannot recommend a more relaxing place than Eco Yoga. So grab your yoga mat and your suitcase! Scotland is calling!
The Location
It may be located at the very far west of the Scottish Highlands, not the easiest of places to get to, but the journey is so worth it. Eco Yoga is surrounded by glorious mountains, luscious trees and has a beautiful view of the Loch Awe below. The drive towards the eco-lodge has stunning views the entire way and when you arrive, you’ll have a perfect spot to watch the sunset!
The Vibe
As soon as you arrive at Eco Yoga, you can’t help but relax. I’m not sure if it is the fresh Scottish air, the chilled-out staff or the quiet surrounding you, as soon as I stepped into my little room for the weekend, I automatically relaxed. And that is something that really doesn’t come naturally to me usually.
The Food
Get ready to give your body some plant-based love. Grown on site, foraged locally and cooked to perfection, the in house chef cooks delicious meals for all guests.
Breakfast is a DIY help yourself affair of porridge, toast, fruit and fresh eggs from the pet hens, lunch is scrumptious rainbow salads and a soup of the day and dinner is served in the dining room together with other holidayers and is made up for three different mains from the same theme. The Mexican night was to die for.
The Rooms
Eco has a mix of private and shared rooms, some are female only and some rooms offer kids beds too! I stayed in a private guest room that had the comfiest king-sized bed, cute little sitting area and private toilet and sink. Shower rooms are shared and located not far from the private rooms but they are exceptionally clean and the showers are warm and powerful! Can’t ask for more.
Nature
You don’t have to relax for your entire stay at Eco. The walking trails that surround the lodge are great to get stuck into. Stroll into the forest behind the lodge, or down to the loch for a natural swim, (if you can brave the Scottish chill). This area of the highlands is too beautiful not to explore.
The Facilities
Eco Yoga is big into bathing in nature, and have installed two bucket baths at different levels of the waterfall the lodge is situated on. Hot and cold water is pumped straight from the river, relaxing bubble bath flows in abundance and bathing in amongst nature is a unique and relaxing experience.
In addition to these amazing baths, the site has a hot tub, two ice plunge buckets, outdoor showers and a sauna (which unfortunately is currently closed due to Covid restrictions), all of which are sustained using solar panels and water which is directly pumped from the stream. If the use of all of these facilities doesn’t make you zen, I don’t know what will!
Yoga
With a yoga instructor living on-site, 2-hour lessons run every morning in the eco heated yoga studio. Being in such a small group, you really get to hone your yoga skills, can ask individual questions about your practice and get advice and feedback from Nick, the owner, who has been practising yoga for over 40 years!
So if you are a lockdown yoga newbie, or you have been practising for years. |f you want a place to switch off or you just love delicious veggie food, Eco Yoga Scotland is well worth every penny. What are you waiting for? The West Scottish Highlands are waiting!
