Food Ideas For A Creepy Halloween Feast
I absolutely love Autumn, but it always creeps up on me (pun intended!) and suddenly it’s Halloween or Day of the Dead and I need some quick and easy spooky eats to entertain my friends.
Thank goodness for the internet; Pinterest and Buzzfeed are absolute gold mines. Here are some of my favourite tips to spook up your food quickly, and on a budget!
Mummify it
There are so many ideas online regarding using pastry to make a wrapped mummy, both sweet and savoury. Think sausage rolls or even roasted vegetables. I love the idea of these jalapeno poppers.
Marshmallow Cobwebs
To me, Katherine Sabbath, is the queen of my Instagram feed, but 9 times out of 10 her bakes are time-consuming and hard. Enter, marshmallow cobwebs, so simple, and so effective. Simply melt marshmallow and string it between your hands to create a cobweb.
Graveyard Trifle
Time to get creative with some store-bought ingredients. Think, cream, custard, chocolate “soil” and biscuit gravestones. Let your creative juices flow with food colouring and some piping icing and bingo a crowd pleasing dessert that is a great way to use that glass punch bowl you never get round to using.
Pumpkin Everything
Pumpkins are an amazing way to decorate for any kind of Halloween gathering but don’t discard the vegetable inside when making Jack Lanterns. Instead, think about a simple pumpkin soup which you might decide to top with some spooky shaped toast or with some cobwebbed cream/ yogurt on top.
Style it out
More than anything, Halloween is a great excuse to get a bit creative with presentation. Perhaps you might decide to cut faces into your pie crust, make a skull biscuits, or simply present your food in your darkest homewares. Think some humourous plays on pumpkins or skulls.
Feeling Fruity?
Not that I’m complaining, but as soon as pumpkin spiced season hits I feel like I am in a permanent sugar/ fat/ processed food coma until after GALentines day. So sometimes it’s fun to have some healthier options. Maybe stuffed orange peppers as Jack Lanterns or simply some fruit bowls riddled with some fake creepy crawlies. One of my favourites are these clementine pumpkins.
Go Dark with Drinks
Gone are the days of adding green food colouring to all Halloween punch bowls, instead think dark fruit liquors or red wine as the basis for something spooky, delicious and drinkable
I would absolutely love to know if you try any of these Halloween tips, I know I will be, so keep in touch via my Instagram! and don’t forget to tag any of your creations with @citygirlnetwork
