Bootylicious: How to Love and Grow your Booty

Sugar, spice and everything nice - that's what the curves are made of. All bodies are beautiful and so are all body parts (trying my best here not to sound like a cannibalistic psychopath), but there is one that's been praised a lot recently - the bottom. The 2010s have been all about the booty, and it looks like 2020 is going in a similar direction. If you aren't already on the derriere train, what are you waiting for? Hop on!

Think of your booty as a plant - a peachy plant. Take care of it, feed it, grow it. It’s a part of you that deserves a whole lot of love. To learn how to appreciate yourself and your body fully, your journey should begin with your bum! Trust me, if you love your bum, you immediately love yourself. I think you’re ready to love this jelly…

1. Exercise!

Great way to love your booty is through exercise. Exercise is so important, and it has a positive effect on both your physical and mental health. Any type of activity is good, but if you want to build your bum, certain kinds of exercises could help you with that. Before we start, it’s essential to know what muscles make up the buttocks - the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. A lot of video guides on how to grow your glutes can be found on Instagram:

Some popular bum exercises include squats, lunges, bridges, kickbacks, hamstring curls, donkey kicks, hip thrusts and leg lifts. All of these can be done at home or at the gym. You can use weights, elastic bands or just bodyweight to do most of them. Some cardio exercises target your glutes like StairMaster or Elliptical, which can be found in most gyms. Hiking, climbing, cycling and sprinting are also great ways to tone and tighten your glutes.

Remember, squats are girl's best friends!

2. Skincare

Did you know butts need skincare too? It deserves the same care and love you give your face and the rest of the body. What are you waiting for? Squeeze in your butt in your skincare routine! Acnes, bumps, pimples and dry skin on your bum can be a pain in the ass, but you can treat all of it with some skin care products such as masks, creams and scrubs. Treat the booty!

3. Food

Probably my personal favourite strategy to grow and love the bum, food is essential for your glutes. Eating the right food will also help out with any pimple breakouts your bum might experience. Studies show that food like salmon helps increase muscle volume and strength, including the glutes’. To grow the booty, it’s crucial to increase the protein intake, which is the key to building muscle.

Foods that have high protein are flax seeds, eggs, chicken breast, milk, greek yoghurt, brown rice, protein shakes and cottage cheese. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, there are also a lot of food options that help grow your bums - such as peanuts, tofu, quinoa, pumpkin seeds and avocados. These foods have several health benefits, as well. It’s essential to keep your derriere hydrated, so don’t forget to drink water - preferably, 2L a day!

4. Look in the mirror and admire it!

Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the peachiest bum of all? Well, you duh! Check yourself out and go on a journey of love. No matter the shape or the size, that's your peachy bum. It carries your upper body every day, and it's where you store a lot of your physical strength. It has a purpose, and it's here to Assist you(get it?).

Do you have cellulite? Guess what? So does almost everyone. And you know what, it is beautiful. Stretch marks? They are here as proof of growth, to help you remember how much you have grown and how far you've come. Do you know how sometimes you can feel small? Well, your tiger stripes are here to remind you of how great you are. More info on why to love your stretch marks can be found here

Imperfections are the new black. They are entirely natural and a part of you, so you should just accept it and give it some love. All your butt needs is love, along with the rest of previously mentioned things.

5. Dress her up

Shopping time! Get yourself some fine lingerie or some jeans that will fit the shape of your goodies. Maybe you already own a pair of trousers that make your booty pop. Dress up, walk around the house, dance! Feel yourself, gal! Booties just want to have fun too.

What should you wear to make your booty look good? It all depends on your body shape, but it's also essential that you feel good in it. Whether you prefer leggings, jeans, tight dress, maxi skirt or just underwear (at home!), it's up to you. It's a cycle. If the booty looks good, so do you and if you look good, you feel good. Most importantly, if you feel good, you look even better.

Always remember one thing - everyone's booty-ful, no matter what!
