Review: Mamma Mia! The Party

A real-life, immersive, and remarkable dining experience perfect for all the Mamma Mia superfans, written by ABBA’s very own Björn Ulvaeus.

REVIEW SUMMARY

We were excited before we even got to the arena. Headphones in, pressed play and volume up for ‘chiquitita’ – one of our movie favourites. Once we got to the o2 arena we didn’t even have to ask for directions, we simply followed the Donna look-alikes and dancing queens where we were met by a very excited queue.

When it was our turn, we were welcomed by “You are now on holiday, welcome to Skopelos!!”

We walked through the Idelyyic worn blue doors where the receptionists gave us a warm welcome to the Nikos Tarverna and explained where to go. Even walking up the stairs we wanted to scream Mamma Mia! Songs.

Speechless is the only word I can describe our reaction when we saw the set of Nikos Taverna. The enthusiastic waiter had to double ask us what wine we would like because we were so amazed.

Let’s set this straight - it’s not a replication of the movie and the musicals as we know them. Whilst the Taverna is based on the island of Skopelos, where the film was shot, MAMMA MIA! The Party is a standalone story. Though, there are some references to the film, which makes it all the more fun.

The performance is split into three different acts – with each interval dedicated to spacing out the three courses included in our ticket. The food was delicious, traditional, and the perfect portion.

The cast members were phenomenal, singing from balconies at every corner, and – the best bit - getting the audience involved! We laughed, we sang, and we smiled so much our jaw hurt. This was the perfect girls day out filled with almost every ABBA/Mamma Mia song you could think of (34 to be exact)! And there’s an opportunity to go up on stage with the rest of the audience and sing the last few moments away.

Tickets start at £99, which is certainly on the pricier side. But it’s a 4-hour experience that truly heightens all of your senses and, for that, we’d say it’s well worth the money, money, money.

Tickets are available on See Tickets.

Best for: Girls night, Hen do, Birthday celebrations, Musical date night
