Halloween isn’t Cancelled! 5 Things You Can do TONIGHT With No Prep.
Good news! Even though Halloween might be a little different this year it’s certainly not cancelled. Think it’s too late to do anything fun this evening? Think again! I’m here to bring you 5 things you can do tonight that need no prep whatsoever. Here we go...
1. Movie Night
Ok, so you were probably expecting this one. If you feel safe and comfortable doing so check out which spooky delights your local cinema is showing this evening. Or, if you’d rather stay in, why not revisit a scary movie from your childhood? There are so many that I remember being terrified of when I was younger that upon a re-watch are actually hilariously awful.
Streaming services have quite a few of the classics right now like Hocus Pocus and Witches, but there are bound to be ones that stick in your mind from when you were younger that it’d be fun to revisit. My top recommendations to download or rent tonight are:
2. Dress up!
Usually, Halloween costumes take quite a lot of planning and prep but why not take a look at what you already have and see what you can make out of it? It could literally be anything, animal ears headbands, a tutu from a hen do or even an old item of clothing you can’t believe you ever wore.
Whatever outfit you have at home, just put it on and get into the spirit of things. Don’t have any of the above? Then try the good old bin bag and lots of eye liner trick and go as a witch. Not in the mood yourself? A pillowcase with eye holes will instantly transform your furry friend into a ghost!
3. Make a “whatever-you-have-in” Spooky Bake
This requires a little creativity or at least a bit of scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration. Take a look in your cupboards and see what you have. Hunt around online for recipes featuring your main ingredient and make some tweaks if you need to. Maybe you have bananas to use up and could turn them into flapjacks with some leftover oats? Or maybe you have most things but no eggs, try searching for “eggless cake” and see what alternatives are suggested.
Or, if your cupboards are bare and whatever you could make would be spooky for all the wrong reasons, then may I suggest ordering in to avoid a tummy ache?
4. Curl up with a classic
For those who just want a gentle nod to the holiday, why not spend the evening under a blanket with a classic horror novel? Digital copies are available to download instantly on Amazon so you don’t need to wait for them to arrive on your doorstep, unless you want to. Or, you could download the audio version of your chosen novel and listen to it in the bath.
If you’re not sure where to get started here are a few recommendations of classics you might want to have a look at:
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
5. Try your hand at arts and crafts
If you don’t fancy being scared silly by a movie or a book or are just looking for a slower, more mindful activity to do tonight, why not try and crafting, doodling or painting? Understandably, this is dependent on what arty supplies you have but most people have a notebook and a black pen to do some doodling.
Pinterest some easy tutorials for line drawings or sketches and give it a go. Not only is it a calming way to focus your mind but as a bonus, you won’t need to check under the bed for monsters or dash up the stairs as fast as you can after you’ve turned the light off! You might even discover a hidden talent you didn’t know you had!
Whatever you do tonight, have a very Happy Halloween!
