6 Ways to Make your Quarantine Birthday Special
Before Coronavirus struck, most of us would have had extra special days, or even weeks planned, in the lead up to our birthdays. Spending it with our nearest and dearest, going out for meals, for drinks, or maybe even having friends over for a games night.
But just because your birthday this year might look a little (or very different) doesn’t mean that our celebrations have to stop. Quite the opposite. Recently, I spent my birthday in quarantine and have included some useful ideas to ensure that you celebrate your special day.

Dress to Impress
My first suggestion would be to wear something that makes you feel great. I am not talking about the most glamorous dress in your wardrobe (although good for you if that’s what you choose). It could be your favourite pair of tracksuit bottoms, loungewear or just something really comfy and cosy. I am a firm believer that when you wear something special it makes you feel good.
Plan in Advance
One of my main priorities ahead of my birthday was ensuring that it felt different to the everyday. So, during my essential weekly shop, I picked up a couple of extra special bits, like balloons, napkins and party poppers. It doesn’t need to break the bank but these additions can make a big difference.
Organise an Online Event with Family and Friends

I know that organising an online event can be a daunting prospect. You might like to run your own quiz but there are lots of other options available, if you like many others have quiz fatigue!
You might like to run a murder mystery event. It does require a bit of organisation ahead of the evening and enthusiastic participants. But I can personally vouch that the Murder in the Red Room is a great murder mystery.
You might decide to run an online escape room. There are free ones such as the Harry Potter escape room or other companies such as the Panic Room run them too (for groups of up to 10 people)
Or perhaps you could even organise your own wine tasting or cocktail making masterclass? You can buy kits online or even send your friends a list so that they can get it along with their weekly shop.
Do something Creative
If you enjoy being creative this might be the idea just for you! It might be that you set aside a few hours of your day to paint something that you have wanted to paint for a long time. That is how Matt Baker spent his birthday.
There are also kits that you can buy, if you are a fan of creating your own pottery. Maybe you would like to make pinch pots, vases, coasters or pendants, the world is your oyster! On the website below, there are a range of handy video tutorials and masterclasses to support you in your creative endeavours.
Or maybe you are lucky enough that you have a creative friend. From cupcake decorating, to vision board creation to photography. As it’s your birthday, how could your friend possibly refuse?

Have a Pampering Session
Get your hands on a pampering kit ahead of your special day. It might be your favourite bubble bath, hair mask or nail polish. Put on some relaxing music, your favourite podcast or maybe even dabble in some meditation (the Insight Timer app is great for this!)
Move Your Body
For your daily exercise, head somewhere local but somewhere that you love to go. It could be a local park, down by the river or passed your favourite local independent coffee shop. A lot of places are still open for takeaway, so grab yourself a latte and have an explore!
You might be a fan of yoga or Pilates. There are lots of wonderful videos on Youtube, for example, Yoga with Adriene. Or your local yoga or Pilates studio might be running classes online. Obviously take care and do this at your own risk!
Have a disco at home, either alone or invite family and friends to join in virtually. Create a fun playlist, you might like to set a theme and encourage family and friends to join in the dancing from their living rooms! Do you have any fairy lights left over from Christmas, or glow sticks? You could even use your phone to light up the room!
Your birthday might look and feel a little different this year but it can still be special. Whatever you do, or don’t, do be kind to yourself and have a wonderful day.
