CGN Wardrobe Edit: March

City Girl Networks monthly fashion and beauty edit, curating some of our favourite products from the brands we love…

Spring is here and hell, it feels like a celebration.

I’m Ariella, City Girl Networks new Fashion and Beauty Editor.  I’m all about cool styling and clean beauty and will happily don a cocktail dress and leather jacket to go to the dentist. Whoever said specific outfits are reserved for specific occasions had too many places to go.

The designer Minju Kim is a wonder and I would live in the Vampire’s Wife if the bank balance permitted. Style inspo comes from Leandra Medine Cohen (formerly of Man Repeller) (@leandramcohen) and Victoria Saceanu Gregersen (@victoriasaceaunu).

I’m a firm believer that a generous dose of gold jewellery amplifies the luxe-factor of any outfit and honestly, confidence is the ultimate accessory (sorry not sorry).

March finally sees the end of our style hibernation. The sun is shining (a bit), the sky is blue (ish?), lockdown is lifting and as of the 8 March, Boris is letting us leave the house to (drumroll please)... picnic with our household or support bubble! And we are dressing up for the occasion.

In this month’s edit, we’re paying homage to the season of rebirth and renewal. Every industry is buzzing with post-Covid forecasts and Fashion and Beauty are no exceptions.

Sustainability and inclusivity are the obvious themes that spring to mind. Lockdown has inspired a wave of talented and creative artists to launch their brands with many focusing on ways to reduce waste and ensure that the supply chain is protecting textiles workers. Watch this space for features on our new favourites!

On the High Street, colour is back in a big way. Bold shades are finally all the rage after seasons of tonal dressing. We’re also seeing a denim revival, with brands exploring new and fun ways to wear the classic.

Pinks Who Run The World Midi Dress, Never Fully Dressed £89

We love this square necked, puff shoulder midi from Never Fully Dressed. The bright colours and fun print make this the perfect transitional piece, both seasonally and emotionally. A midi skirt or dress is a great way to feel slightly more put together yet comfortable, with room for you to fill up on picnic goodies and a hem long enough that a gust of wind won't leave you flashing neighbouring picnic-ers.

Will Jacket, Sézane £105

For an update on the classic denim jacket, look no further than this relaxed, unstructured fit from French favourite, Sézane. Effortlessly cool, the boxy shape offsets the femininity of a pretty dress, dressing down the look.

ASOS DESIGN Personalised Scarf, ASOS £14

Whilst this Wardrobe Edit is full of optimism and excitement for the warmer weather, realistically, our March picnics may be marred by (just a little) chill in the air. Throw a blanket scarf over your look to take the edge off whilst still looking chic. You can't go wrong with a neutral accessory and we particularly like this personalised version by ASOS Design.

Monogrammed with your initial (or a letter at random if that's your jam), this scarf will keep you warm and double as a picnic blanket if you find yourself sinking into a wet patch of grass (unlikely given the sheer volume of manifestation of beautiful weather in this Edit).

Cream Caged Ankle Boots, Charles and Keith £69

Pair with cream or white ankle boots for a spring appropriate alternative to the traditional black boot. We're seeing a lot of white chunky ankle boots on the high street at the moment but I've got my eye on this fab pair from Charles and Keith. The laser cut out detail adds a bit of interest and toughens up the look. (PSA: avoid picnicking near any muddy puddles).

Openwork Ankle Socks, Calzedonia £4.99

While the weather is still a bit cooler, pair these boots with some fun socks like this openwork pair from Calzedonia. The femininity of the socks contrasts nicely with the boots and makes the look feel put-together. The peekaboo effect of being able to see skin through the boots and the socks also gives a cool and effortless edge.

Titty Tassel Canvas Tote, Esty £20

Grab yourself a tote bag to carry your picnic treats and you're good to go! Boob decor is everywhere right now and I'm loving it. Go for this fun canvas tote to add a relaxed vibe to your look without detracting from the boldness of the dress.

Clean Screen Mineral SPF30 Mattifying Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen, REN £32

Any skincare enthusiast will know that, come rain or shine, SPF is a must. Skincare buffs will have been wearing SPF throughout lockdown despite the dark days but for those who have been more lax, be sure to apply generously now that we’re going to be leaving the house (!), starting with your picnic.

I love this non-comedogenic SPF from REN. Packed with skin-boosting ingredients derived from natural ingredients, this lightweight formula won’t leave you with a grey-cast or sticky sheen, making it perfect for layering under make-up.

Here at City Girl Network we love to see what you're getting up to! Tag us in your OOTDs on Instagram and photos of your picnics and strolls outside! Happy picnicking!
