CGN Fashion Trends: huggie hoops you need to add to your jewellery collection

Huggie hoops really do seem to be having a moment right now, from dainty styles to chubbier statement pieces, these snug varieties on the classic hoops are all over the high street and luxury brands. Here at City Girl Network we love to support small and local businesses, so are highlighting a selection of our favourite sets of huggie hoops you can buy online, making a perfect treat for yourself or gift for a loved one (yes, Christmas is creeping ever closer).

Pearls are a girls best friend too

It’s not only huggie hoops that are on trend right now, but the humble pearl is definitely on our radar. These lustrous gemstones may form from an unwanted irritant inside an oyster’s shell, but their chic and elegant appeal has lasted the test of time. The charm of freshwater pearls is in the variety of their shapes (from almost spherical to unique baroque morphs) and colours (a pastel rainbow of creams, pinks and lavenders).

Pineapple Island’s dainty 18 karat gold plated huggies feature elegant freshwater pearl drops at an amazing price point. Not only this, but the brand itself is designed for the ethically-minded consumer; the small team based in Bournemouth, UK, work closely with a studio in Bali, in which their artisans create each item by hand and help locals find employment, setting their own work hours and fees. Furthermore, their packaging is environmentally friendly, being made from biodegradable materials.

They have recently launched the earrings in silver, but I purchased the gold set a few months ago and they are most definitely my go-to pair; I receive compliments on them all the time and they have started a love affair with pearls.

Shine like the stars

Bring the stars to life with Constellation Co’s exquisite collection of constellation-themed huggie hoops - there’s so many to choose from you’ll never be able to buy just one pair! We will begin with my favourites, the Infinity hoops, which not only feature cubic zirconia and 14 karat gold plating, but have a unique design with cut-outs of celestial bodies in the sides of the hoops.

Then there are the Galaxy hoops which comprise an intricate design inlay in 14 karat copper-coloured gold plating, which can work amazingly in an ear stack with studs. The brand has also recently launched the Celestial hoops, which have a much simpler design for those wanting a minimalist yet chic style. They are available in a wider range of colours too, including 18 karat yellow gold plating, rose gold and silver.

Founder Cally O’Neill started the brand just last year and it already has a set of loyal customers (myself included!). Cally often releases new limited edition sets and posts discount codes over on Constellation Co’s Instagram so I’d highly recommend keeping an eye - especially around the time of bank holidays and festive occasions. Items often sell out fast too, so it’s always worth acting quickly so you don’t miss out.

Minimalist but mighty

For those desiring a more simplistic huggie, the husband and wife duo behind Amber James Jewellery are involved in every step of the process, from design to the final polish, and pride themselves on providing the exceptional customer experience that they would appreciate themselves.

These cute honeycomb-shaped hoops in sterling silver or 18 karat yellow gold plated silver are ideal to wear on their own or with studs. They also offer a selection of other shapes to switch things up from a standard circular hoop, with these slightly larger rectangular huggies, chunky drop hoops, beaded hoops and these tiny chubbier versions which are the definition of closely hugging your ears. This provides the perfect opportunity to mix styles and metals for a more dynamic ear stack.

Pop of colour

Though plain metals are a classic style, Lisa Angel’s enamel huggies are super cute, with their dual teal and pink colourway making them a fun addition to your jewellery collection and ideal for spring and summer outfits (anyone else dreaming ahead to next year and summer holidays now autumn is approaching?). Made from 14 karat gold plated brass, these are designed and handmade in the UK.

Whether you are looking for classic and chic or fun and flirty, these are just a small selection of our favourite affordable huggie hoops, which we think you will love. Please do let us know of any other amazing small businesses you believe deserve a spotlight and which fashion trends you would like us to highlight next by getting in touch through any of the social media linked below. In the meantime, happy shopping!
