A Brief Guide To Energy Healing

Energetic medicines have been around since the beginning of time, they can be found all over the world, and in very different cultures. The concept of healing with the hands, and of healing spiritually, is in fact a repeated theme in most religions.

However, many energetic medicines currently available in the western world, although often based in spirituality, are not religious, the difference being that a healer’s aim should never be about encouraging you to find a god or a source of healing outside of you, but rather to connect you to your own source of inner-healing.

The most common form of energetic medicine currently in the west is probably Reiki, this is the Japanese branch of energy healing and was founded by a man called Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1920s.

As with all energetic medicines, reiki works holistically, this means that the mind, body and the soul are treated as a whole, rather than separately, and balance is sought throughout.

It is common knowledge that the brain and the body work together in order for us to function as human beings, if the mind isn’t well, the body’s function decreases, and vice versa.

In energetic medicines, we work with the belief that our bodies hold on to our emotions, and when emotions are left unprocessed, they place themselves in different parts of the body as well as in our auric field. These unprocessed emotions will create blockages and stagnations in our energy flow which can later manifest not just emotionally through negative patterns and habits, but also physically through various ailments, ranging from minor pains to illness.

In energy healing, the healer will therefore rebalance the energies of the body, by releasing energetic blockages and by giving energy, called “ki” in the case of reiki, (called “Qi” in China and “Prana” in India) and universally translated as life force energy. This energy is the force that is at the root of all creation, and it is what keeps us alive.

Practitioners will transmit energies through their hands, this can be done directly on the body, but it is also effective at a distance, and has been widely used throughout this pandemic. The healing will be as powerful in person as at a distance, because energy is not limited to our constructs of time and space, and will be experienced differently depending on the person.

There are reports of some people feeling the energies even at a distance very physically, with tingling, or waves of warmth, some even report feeling shivers, twitches, or sharp pains when energetic stagnations are being released. For others, the experience will be felt far more emotionally, with emotions arising during and after the healing that will guide them towards the inner-work that needs to be done.

Whichever way the energy healing is felt, it is always beneficial. Energy healing can help bring a sense of calm to the receiver, a moment of relaxation, but it will also help deeper changes occur that may not even be noticed until months later, such as negative patterns finally being released.

On a physical level, energy healing can alleviate pains of all sorts, reduce inflammation, nausea, it can help with sleep issues, weight issues, skin conditions, and it can also help in finding the emotional root of deeper illnesses such as chronic illnesses. It works well as a complementary therapy in the case of someone undergoing medical treatment, as it does not interfere with it, but it is also simply a wonderful experience to have for someone who isn’t necessarily seeking deep healing but is just looking for a bit of overall balance in their lives.

Therefore, whatever your reason is for wanting to try energy healing, whether it is simply out of curiosity, or to heal deeper ailments, it is always a good idea, and we can all always benefit from it.
