Food Date Spots In Birmingham

So firstly, how is it already February, and second, how are we being hit with yet another ‘festive season’? Yes that’s right, Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I seem to be cursed when it comes to this time of year (read: always single on Valentine’s) but that doesn’t mean you can’t take yourself or your bestie out on a date.

Here are some of my favourite date, Valentines, Galentines, or just generally fun places to head to during the season of love.

Digbeth Dining Club

For the situationship/keeping it casual

Valentines falls on a Friday this year which also means it coincides with a Digbeth Dining Club Day. Head for the fantastic street food (Only Jerkin’, Fat Snags, Urban Cheesecake… the list goes on) and stay for the inventive cocktails or a can of Hooch (my DDC guilty pleasure). If you’re going on a first date, or fancy a night out with friends, or you’ve just started dating and don’t want something too romantic this could be the perfect option.

Siamais

For the Instagram perfect couple

On the other side of the spectrum, Siamais screams date night with it’s instagramable birdcage seating, cute flower swing, and generally cool decor. So yeah, even if you’re not going on a date this is the place for smug selfies and making your Instragram followers, well jell (apologies but Love Island is also back). The menu is modern Thai with a western twist alongside great cocktails and an extensive wine and beer menu.

Birmingham Edwardian Tea Rooms at BMAG

For the intellectual couple

I had no idea this was a thing, but the Edwardian Tearooms, who now also have Press for Champagne Buttons installed, are running a museum late on Valentine’s Day with 4 course meal and live music in the Industrial Gallery. If your idea of a perfect date is discussing William Morris whilst demolishing a cheeseboard, this is definitely for you!

Anderson & Hill

For those who prefer to stay in

This city centre deli is filled with delights such as fresh cheeses and charcuteries as well as imported pasta, speciality drinks and condiments. You can even order bespoke picnic hampers if you and bae would rather stay in with the latest crime documentary on Netflix.

Revolucion de Cuba

For the perfect galentines / palentines

For me, most Saturdays are an excuse for some form of galentines with all the women I have met through the City Girl Network since moving to Birmingham in 2019. But why not make 2020 extra special with a Galentines Brunch with your friends? Revolucion de Cuba Birmingham are hosting a Galentines Brunch with free-flowing Prosecco, Strawberry Daiquiri, Bloody Mary, Aperol Spritz, Mahou Lager, Spanish Shandy and a Brunch dish of your choice. Depending on the slot it’s as little as £20ph for 2 hours.

Now, on Valentine’s Day, you know that at least the food will be good even if your date isn’t.
