Writer Of The Month - An Interview With Hannah Stephings
City Girl Magazine is home to over 200 volunteer writers and editors who give their time to help us create content for this amazing platform. We want to celebrate the exemplary writers who have shown dedication to the magazine, as well as helping to build resources and masterclasses for our Volunteers Hub. The magazine truly wouldn’t be what it is without their hard work and creativity.

When and why did you join City Girl Magazine as a Writer?
I joined City Girl Magazine in February 2021. I was doing a science masters and was really missing the creative outlet I’d previously found in writing throughout my English Literature degree. This magazine has been a wonderful space to stretch my creative muscles, write about topics that really matter to me and build my portfolio and confidence as a freelancer.
What do you love the most about volunteering for City Girl as a Content Creator?
The scope that you’re given as a writer for City Girl is incredible, being able to write on whatever topic really speaks to you, whether that’s a political issue or the best coffee shops in your local area. I love the diversity of voices and perspectives the magazine features - it’s amazing to be part of such a supportive, inclusive community of creators.
Tell us more about what you enjoy writing about…
As a self-confessed bookworm, I love contributing to the books section! I’m really interested in writing about mental health and wellbeing, the nuances of feminism and food.
What topics are you looking forward to working on in the future?
I’m currently developing an idea that combines my two loves of books and cooking, so keep an eye out for that! I’m also looking forward to writing more about navigating sobriety, sexuality and mental health.
What is your favourite article in the magazine?
We Need to Stop Apologising for Our Stomachs by Georgia Winstone - a beautiful piece on the nuances of the body positivity movement, social media and self acceptance.
If you had to pick your top three articles, which you have published, what would they be?
