Where To Eat In Edinburgh On A Budget

Edinburgh boasts a wide variety of excellent restaurants all found in close proximity to one another. Listed below are the five best tried and tested places to eat where you’ll find delicious food that won’t break the bank.

1: Chez Jules Bistro

This French restaurant is a favourite New Town lunch spot for students. From 12-4pm you can get an incredible 1 course meal for £7.90, and 3 courses for only £11.90. You’ll have to book due to its popularity, but this restaurant’s Steak Frites and complementary salad, bread and butter, pickles, and pate cannot be missed when in Scotland’s capital.

Address: 109 Hanover St, Edinburgh EH2 1DJ

2: The Outsider

Another great lunch spot, The Outsider can be found on Edinburgh’s George IV bridge and allow you to dine while enjoying beautiful castle views. Between 12-5pm this restaurant’s seasonal mains are available only under £10, and include delicious dishes such as steamed mussels, spiced tofu chorizo, and chargrilled burgers.

Address: 15-16 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EE

3: Bar Italia

Situated on Lothian Road, Bar Italia is a traditional and relaxed Italian restaurant that rivals Edinburgh’s expensive Italian eateries. Never exceeding £15, its mains include a wide range of classic and contemporary Italian dishes (the Seafood Pizza is a particularly tasty stand-out dish).

4: Saboteur

Saboteur is the lesser-known sister restaurant of Edinburgh’s Ting Thai and is situated across from Edinburgh University’s McEwan Hall. It serves an excellent variety of Vietnamese food that cannot be found anywhere else in the city, with most lunchtime mains costing a mere £6.90 and dinners £8.90.

5: Oink

For a unique meal that cost less than £5, Oink is the place to go. Located in three places around the city centre, here you can enjoy the best pulled pork sandwich in Edinburgh for as little as £4.95.
